Founder's Letter

As a first-generation student, I faced a difficult transition from a small town to a large city for college. Heading into NC State, a primarily white institution brought cultural isolation. That same freshman year (2021) I came up with MASA (Mexican American Student Association). Heading into my Sophmore year, I took a Spanish course where I found people facing the same experiences and containing the passion to bring MASA into reality.

I formed a team of 6 founding members: Liz Sarabia, Ana Maria Quirino, Nicole Garcia, Sinaí Avalos Beltran, Lara Tiscareno, and Azucena De La Sancha. Our hard work turned into success when MASA became an official registered organization on December 1st, 2022.

I would like to thank our past and current executives as they ideate and execute events/fundraisers to grow MASA and creating a friendly, welcoming space for all those who identify as Mexican, Mexican-American, or those interested in the Mexican culture,
